MD-PhD Retreat 2025

Four prizes were awarded during the 11th MD-PhD Retreat on 19 November 2025 at the CHUV in Lausanne.

The 11th annual MD-PhD Retreat, organized by the Lausanne MD-PhD Commission UNIL and EPFL, was held on 19 November 2025 at the CHUV in Lausanne with great success.

As every year, the retreat encourages MD-PhD students and candidates to present their work beyond their immediate research environment and offers a space to connect with former students, thesis directors, and faculty members involved in the Lausanne UNIL/EPFL MD-PhD programme. All MD-PhD students presented posters, and six of these were selected for oral presentations. Four prizes were then awarded for the best presentation and the best posters, to:

  • Ms. Lorène ROUSSEAU, MD-PhD student, UNIL – Prize for the best presentation
  • Mr. Adrien WAEBER, MD-PhD student, UNIL – Prize for the best poster

  • Ms. Noémie ROH, MD-PhD student, UNIL – Prize for the 2nd best poster

  • Mr. Mehdi Ali GADIRI, MD-PhD student, EPFL – Prize for the 3rd best poster

This edition also had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Déla Golshayan, Prof. Renaud Du Pasquier, Prof. Alexandre Roulin, Prof. Li Tang, Prof. Davide Staedler, and Dr. Raphaël Porret as keynote speakers. Each shared insights from their own paths and highlighted the many ways in which scientific curiosity can be nurtured among doctoral students, medical students, and clinicians.

There was a great deal of solid scientific knowledge from both PIs and students, a good diversity of topics, and many interactions.

This retreat highlighted the essential values that shape the physician-scientists of tomorrow: passion, curiosity, commitment, and boldness.
