EDPY PhD student awarded Google PhD Fellowship in Quantum Computing

Alessandro Sinibaldi, from Prof. Giuseppe Carleo’s group, has been awarded the Google Fellowship 2025 for his groundbreaking research on harnessing artificial intelligence to simulate quantum computers! This prestigious honor highlights his exceptional talent and the exciting potential impact of his work.

Alessandro’s research investigates the potential of artificial intelligence in simulating quantum computers. He is developing neural-network–based algorithms to model digital quantum circuits on conventional hardware, sharply reducing the cost and complexity of device testing and clarifying where true quantum advantage begins.

By emulating computations deemed intractable for classical machines, his work aims at defining which problems truly require quantum resources versus more efficient classical algorithms. The high-performance software tools Alessandro develops strengthen benchmarking for next-generation quantum hardware and push the frontiers of numerical quantum physics.
